Not every mod gives pp. Here is what Relax, Autopilot, Spun Out and the other unranked mods actually do, when to use them, and why they do not count toward your rank.
By OSUMAUK Staff
The standard mods guide covers the ranked mods that change your pp - HD, HR, DT and the rest. This one covers the other half: the unranked mods. They change how the game plays but award no pp, and some are practice aids while others are just for fun. Knowing what each does saves confusion about why a play gave nothing.
Relax and Autopilot are legitimate practice tools, not cheating - they are built into the game and clearly marked unranked. Using an external tool to do the same thing on a ranked play is cheating and gets you banned. The line is the mod menu.
Easy (EZ) and Half Time (HT) do award pp, but they reduce difficulty, so they lower the star rating and pay less - ranked, but not farm mods. No Fail (NF) removes the fail state and applies a small pp penalty; it is for safely passing a map you might choke, not for farming.
Relax is great for isolating aim when your tapping is holding you back, and for reading practice on maps above your level. Just do not lean on it - the tapping skill it skips is the one most players are weakest at, and there is no Relax pp to hide behind, because there is none.
For the mods that actually build your rank, see the ranked mods guide and the pp farm guide.
