The most flexible Controller in Valorant. Omen smokes from anywhere, blinds through walls, teleports to reposition and can swap to the other side of the map with his ultimate.
By VALMAUK Staff
Omen is the Swiss-army knife of Controllers and, for many players, the role benchmark. He smokes from a phased targeting world that lets him place clouds anywhere within range, he has a wall-piercing blind, a short teleport for repositioning, and a global teleport ultimate that lets him appear on a flank or the other side of a site. He asks nothing of his team and fits on every map, which is exactly why he sits at the top of nearly every Controller tier list.
| Ability | Key | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shrouded Step | C | ~100 credits, 2 charges (as of the current patch) | EQUIP a shrouded step ability and see its range indicator. FIRE to begin a brief channel, then teleport to the marked location. |
| Paranoia | Q | ~250 credits, 1 charge (as of the current patch) | EQUIP a blinding orb. FIRE to throw it forward, briefly Nearsighting and Deafening all players it touches. This projectile can pass straight through walls. |
| Dark Cover | E | ~150 credits each, 2 charges (as of the current patch) | EQUIP a shadow orb and enter a phased world to place and target the orbs. PRESS the ability key to throw the orb to the marked location, creating a long-lasting shadow sphere that blocks vision. |
| From the Shadows | X | Ultimate, ~7 points (verify in-client for the current patch) | EQUIP a tactical map. FIRE to begin teleporting to the selected location. While teleporting, Omen appears as a Shade that can be destroyed by an enemy to cancel his teleport. |
Omen rewards aggression more than any other Controller. Smoke your own entry, then push through it; if it goes wrong, Shrouded Step out to reset the angle. His Dark Cover smokes recharge over the round, so you are rarely truly out of vision denial — use one to execute and hold the second for the retake or a reposition. Paranoia is a tempo tool: fire it through a wall to blind a holding angle, then swing the now-blind defender before they recover.
The teleports are what separate a good Omen from a great one. Shrouded Step is short but instant enough to bait a peek, swap to an off-angle, or escape a lost duel. From the Shadows is a full repositioning tool — use it to take an uncontested flank, relocate after a fake, or grab map control your team could not push for. Remember the Shade is visible and killable on arrival, so teleport into safety, not into a known angle.
"Omen is the only smoker who can entry his own execute and still be alive to smoke the retake.
Omen is a comfort pick on essentially the entire map pool, which is the whole point of him — his flexibility means he rarely leaves the meta even when other Controllers fall out of it. He is especially strong on maps that reward aggressive map control and one-way blinds. As always, treat any specific map ranking as a current-patch snapshot rather than a fixed rule.
Tip: learn one-way Dark Cover placements for the sites you defend most. A one-way that lets you see legs while the attacker sees only smoke turns a 1v1 entry into a free kill.
Medium. The basics are approachable, but mastering smoke placement, one-ways and especially teleport timing takes real practice. He is a fine second Controller after Brimstone and the most transferable skill set in the role.
