The German genius locks down sites with automated tech. Master turret placement, Nanoswarm denial, and the Lockdown timing that wins post-plants.
By VALMAUK Staff
Killjoy is the most automated Sentinel in the game. Where Cypher trades on raw information, Killjoy trades on physical area denial: her gadgets shoot, slow, and damage on their own, letting her hold space she is not even standing in. She is the premier post-plant agent because her kit can deny a defuse from across the map.
| Ability | Key | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nanoswarm | C | 200 cr (x2) | Throw a covert grenade that goes dormant on landing; activate remotely to release a swarm that deals heavy damage. |
| Alarmbot | Q | 200 cr | Deploy a covert bot that hunts enemies in range and applies Vulnerable, doubling damage taken. |
| Turret | E | Free (signature) | Deploy a turret that fires at enemies in a 100-degree cone; can be recalled and redeployed. |
| Lockdown | X | 7 ult points | After a long windup, the device Detains every enemy caught in a large radius through walls. |
These keys and costs are correct as of the current patch. Riot occasionally retunes Killjoy (the Lockdown windup and gadget range have both been touched historically), so verify the live values if precise numbers matter to you.
On defense, set up your gadgets to cover one site and let the automation buy time. Hide the turret where it pokes a pushing enemy from an unexpected angle, tuck an alarmbot around a blind corner, and pre-place a Nanoswarm on the plant spot for post-plant value. You do not have to win the gunfight; you only have to delay and tag the enemy until your team rotates.
On attack, Killjoy is a post-plant monster. Plant the spike, then deploy Nanoswarms on common defuse positions so the enemy cannot retake without eating damage. Lockdown is your round-breaker: time it so the detain lands as the enemy commits to the retake, then clean up the helpless targets.
"Killjoy does not defend a site, she rents it out to her machines and collects the trades.
Killjoy is generally strongest on enclosed sites where her gadget cluster covers everything at once, with Ascent, Bind, and Icebox often cited as favorites. Always check the current competitive map rotation, as her strength shifts when maps enter and leave the pool.
Stagger your gadgets so they cannot all be cleared by one piece of enemy utility. Splitting the turret and alarmbot across different angles forces the enemy to spend two abilities instead of one to break your setup.
Low to medium. Default setups are easy to learn, but optimal Nanoswarm lineups and Lockdown timing take practice to exploit fully.
