The galaxy-brain Controller. Astra plants Stars across the map from Astral Form, then detonates them into smokes, concusses or gravity wells — plus the map-splitting Cosmic Divide.
By VALMAUK Staff
Astra is the highest-ceiling Controller in Valorant. She does not throw smokes; she enters an overhead Astral Form, plants Stars anywhere on the map, and later detonates each Star into one of three effects — a smoke, a concuss or a gravity well. That pre-planning gives her the deepest utility flexibility of any Controller, but it also means she is the slowest to react and the most punishing to misplay, because spent Stars take time to return.
| Ability | Key | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gravity Well | C | ~150 credits per Star at round start (as of the current patch) | Place Stars in Astral Form. ACTIVATE a Star to form a Gravity Well. Players in the area are pulled toward the center before it explodes, making all players still trapped inside Vulnerable. |
| Nova Pulse | Q | Star-based, ~150 credits per Star (as of the current patch) | Place Stars in Astral Form. ACTIVATE a Star to detonate a Nova Pulse. The pulse charges briefly then strikes, Concussing all players in its area. |
| Nebula / Dissipate | E | Star-based, ~150 credits per Star (as of the current patch) | Place Stars in Astral Form. ACTIVATE a Star to transform it into a Nebula (smoke). USE a Star to Dissipate it, returning the Star to a new location after a delay and leaving a fake Nebula briefly. |
| Astral Form / Cosmic Divide | X | Ultimate, ~7 points (verify in-client for the current patch) | ACTIVATE to enter Astral Form and place Stars with FIRE. When Cosmic Divide is charged, ALT FIRE to aim then FIRE two points; an infinite wall connects them, blocking bullets and sound. |
Astra is built around her Passive, Astral Form: she enters the overhead view to place Stars, then targets those Stars with Nova Pulse, Nebula or Gravity Well to trigger the effects. Every Star you place is a future smoke, stun or pull.
Astra is about pre-game and early-round set-up. Plant Stars during buy phase on the spots you expect to need utility, so when the round starts you can detonate instantly instead of dropping into Astral Form mid-fight. A common pattern is a Nebula on the entry, a Nova Pulse on a common holding angle and a Gravity Well held for the retake. The gravity well into concuss combo is devastating — pull a stack together, then stun them.
The trade-off is reaction speed: while you are in Astral Form you cannot shoot, so never enter it when a fight could break out near you. Manage your Stars like a budget — Dissipate lets you recover a Star and re-place it, but with a delay, so do not strand all your Stars on a fake. Cosmic Divide is a global, bullet- and sound-blocking wall: use it to safely cross open space, split a site for a retake, or wall off a flank entirely.
"Astra plays the round that has not happened yet. Her Stars are placed before the enemy has even moved.
Astra has tended to shine on maps where pre-placed Stars can quietly support more than one site, and on larger maps where Cosmic Divide can carve out big chunks of space — Fracture, Lotus and Pearl have all favoured her at various points. She falls off when a faster, more reactive smoker is simply better for the tempo. Check the current competitive picks before locking her, as her standing moves with every balance pass.
Tip: spend the buy phase planting Stars in Astral Form before you push to position. Pre-placed Stars mean instant utility when the round starts — and you never want to be in Astral Form, unable to shoot, during a live fight.
High. Astra demands map knowledge, pre-round planning and constant Star economy management. Her ceiling is the highest in the role, but new Controllers will get more value faster on Omen or Brimstone.
