Two summoner spells and a rune page are free power you set before the game even starts. Here is how to not waste them.
By LOLMAUK Staff
Runes and summoner spells are decided in champion select, before a single minion spawns, and they meaningfully change how your champion plays. Getting them roughly right is free power; getting them wrong hands the enemy an edge for the whole game.
Flash is taken on almost every champion in almost every game — it is your single most important escape and engage tool. The second spell depends on your role and matchup, and that is where most of your decision lives.
Your primary rune tree should match your win condition. A burst mage usually wants a damage keystone; a tanky frontliner wants a survivability or trade keystone; an attack-speed carry wants a scaling keystone. Choose the tree that amplifies what your champion is already trying to do, rather than copying a page that does not fit your plan.
When in doubt, look up the most-common rune setup for your champion and matchup, then learn WHY each rune is there. Copying without understanding stops helping the moment the matchup changes.
"Summoner spells and runes are the only part of the game you can get perfect every single time. They are free — stop leaving them on the table.
