How to play Reyna, the solo-queue snowball duelist: her Soul Orb economy, Devour and Dismiss, the Empress ult, and why she is feast-or-famine on the current patch.
By VALMAUK Staff
Reyna is the purest solo-carry duelist in Valorant. Her whole kit is fuelled by kills: every enemy she helps put down drops a Soul Orb, and those orbs power her heal and her escape. Land the first shot and Reyna snowballs out of control — heal up, dismiss to a new angle, and repeat until the round is over. Whiff that first duel and she contributes almost nothing, because her utility gives the team no flashes, no smokes and no recon. That feast-or-famine identity makes her the queen of the ladder and a niche pick in coordinated play. This guide covers the Soul Orb economy and how to ride a winning streak.
Reyna’s kit revolves around her passive, Soul Harvest: enemies that die shortly after she damages them leave Soul Orbs she can consume. The displayNames and descriptions below are pulled from Riot’s live agent data; the keys, credit costs and charges are accurate as of the current patch, but confirm the numbers in the buy menu since they change with balance updates.
| Ability | Key | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leer | C | 250 cr (2 charges, as of the current patch) | EQUIP an ethereal, destructible eye. ACTIVATE to cast the eye a short distance forward; it Nearsights all enemies who look at it. |
| Devour | Q | 200 cr (2 charges, as of the current patch) | Consume a nearby Soul Orb to rapidly gain Temporary Health. With Empress active it casts automatically, does not consume the orb, and the healing is permanent. |
| Dismiss | E | 200 cr (2 charges, as of the current patch) | INSTANTLY consume a nearby Soul Orb, becoming Intangible for a short duration; with Empress active, also become Invisible. |
| Empress | X | 6 ultimate points (as of the current patch) | INSTANTLY enter a frenzy, gaining a Combat Stim that dramatically increases firing, equip and reload speed, plus infinite charges of the Soul Harvest abilities. |
Reyna’s gameplay is a loop built on the kill. Use Leer to nearsight defenders holding an angle, peek into the blind, and take the duel. The moment you secure a kill, you have a Soul Orb — immediately decide whether to Devour for health if you took damage, or Dismiss to break line of sight and reposition before the enemy’s teammate can trade you. The whole point is to never give the enemy a clean second engagement: kill, vanish, re-peek from a new angle with full health.
Empress is what turns a good round into a 1v5. With it active, Devour and Dismiss become infinite and Devour heals permanently, so every kill fully resets you and you can chain dismisses to dart between fights untouchable. Save it for rounds where you expect multiple isolated duels rather than a coordinated 5-stack push. Crucially, Leer is your only piece of team utility — throw it for your teammates’ entries too, not just your own, because it is the one thing Reyna offers a coordinated squad.
"Reyna is only as good as her last kill. Win the opening duel and she is unkillable; lose it and she is a Classic with a nearsight.
Reyna is map-agnostic in a way most duelists are not — she has no satchels or dashes that depend on geometry, so she plays well anywhere her aim carries her, with a slight lean toward maps that offer plenty of corners to Dismiss behind, like Bind and Lotus. Her real “best map” is a solo-queue lobby. As always, treat agent strength as a current-patch read; the meta shifts every few weeks.
Key tip: decide between Devour and Dismiss before you peek, not after. Hesitating on the orb after a kill is what gets Reyna players traded. If you took damage in the fight, Devour; if you are healthy, Dismiss and re-peek from somewhere new.
Reyna is mechanically simple but mentally demanding. Her abilities are easy to use — the hard part is the discipline to consume orbs instantly and the raw aim to win the opening duel that fuels everything. She suits confident, aim-reliant players grinding solo-queue who want their fragging to translate directly into round wins. Players who depend on team coordination or struggle in raw duels will find her unforgiving.
