Knives are the crown jewel of any CS2 inventory. This guide covers every knife model, the finishes worth chasing, and how to buy your first one without overpaying.
By CSMAUK Staff
A knife is the single most expensive item most players will ever own in Counter-Strike, and it is the one everyone notices when you inspect it in the buy menu. Unlike weapon skins, knives are gold-tier 'rare special items' that only drop from cases at very low odds, so almost everyone buys theirs on the market. This guide breaks down every knife model, the finishes that matter, and how to make a smart first purchase instead of an expensive mistake.
The golden rule of buying knives: pick the model first, then the finish, then the float. The model is the animation and shape you will see thousands of times. If you hate how the Gut Knife looks in hand, no finish will save it. Try inspecting models on the range or in trade offers before committing.
There are roughly two dozen knife models and they price very differently even with the same finish. The Karambit and Butterfly Knife are the two most desirable shapes, with the flashiest inspect animations, so they command a premium. The M9 Bayonet, Bayonet, and Talon sit just below as premium classics. Mid-tier models like the Flip, Huntsman, and Stiletto offer the same finishes for noticeably less. And the cheapest models, the Gut Knife, Falchion, Navaja, and Shadow Daggers, are where you go if you just want a real knife for the lowest possible price.
| Tier | Models | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Karambit, Butterfly | Best animations, highest demand |
| Premium | M9 Bayonet, Bayonet, Talon, Skeleton | Iconic shapes, strong resale |
| Mid | Flip, Huntsman, Stiletto, Ursus, Bowie | Same finishes, lower price |
| Budget | Gut, Falchion, Navaja, Shadow Daggers | Cheapest way into a real knife |
A handful of finishes matter most. Doppler is the flagship: a swirling galaxy pattern that comes in phases, with the rare Ruby, Sapphire, and Black Pearl phases costing far more than the standard blue-purple ones. Fade is a clean rainbow gradient, priced by fade percentage. Marble Fade blends red, blue, and yellow, with the coveted 'Fire and Ice' pattern at the top. Case Hardened is the blue-gem lottery, same as on the AK. Slaughter and Lore round out the popular picks.

PremiumIf the Karambit and Butterfly are out of budget, the mid-tier models give you the exact same finishes at a real discount. A Flip Knife Doppler or Stiletto Doppler carries the same galaxy pattern for a fraction of a Karambit's price. The Huntsman is a big, satisfying fixed-blade with a smooth stab animation. The Ursus and Bowie both look great with a Fade. These are the smart-money picks for a first knife.
★ Flip Knife | Doppler
Covert · same Doppler for far less than a Karambit
Best value★ Stiletto Knife | Doppler
Covert · sleek switchblade, popular mid-tier choice
Best value★ Huntsman Knife | Doppler
Covert · big fixed blade, satisfying animation
Best value★ Ursus Knife | Fade
Covert · clean fade on a bear-claw style blade
Best valueThe cheapest way into a real knife is a budget model with a solid finish. Gut Knife Doppler, Falchion Fade, and Shadow Daggers Fade are all genuine, tradeable knives at the bottom of the price ladder. They will never resell for a fortune, but they clear the biggest hurdle: turning your default knife into something that is actually yours. Below is a rough price map to set expectations.
★ Gut Knife | Doppler
Covert · usually the cheapest Doppler on the market
Budget★ Falchion Knife | Fade
Covert · curved blade with a full fade, affordable
Budget★ Shadow Daggers | Fade
Covert · dual daggers, often the cheapest knife going
Cheapest| Tier | Example combo | Rough price band |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Karambit Doppler / Fade | $400-1,200+ |
| Premium | M9 Doppler, Talon Fade | $250-700 |
| Mid | Flip Doppler, Ursus Fade | $120-300 |
| Budget | Falchion Fade, Gut Doppler | $70-150 |
| Cheapest | Shadow Daggers Fade | $60-110 |
Never buy a knife on trust outside the Steam Market or a reputable trade site. Knife scams are the most common way people lose real money in CS2. If a deal looks too good, it is bait.
A knife is usually the last big purchase after the AK and AWP, so if you have not sorted those yet, start with our best AK-47 skins and best AWP skins guides. And if the phase, fade, and float terminology here is new to you, our skin rarity and float explainer covers it in plain language.
